Dear Friends in Christ,

In November 2024, Typhoon Marce wreaked havoc in the region, leaving over 40,000 individuals displaced and their homes destroyed.

The 175-kilometer stretch of coastline from Sta. Ana to Claveria bore the brunt of the storm’s 225 kph winds, which obliterated nearly every structure in its path. Crops have been wiped out, and many are struggling to rebuild their lives.

Pamplona was one of the hardest-hit areas. Homes were reduced to rubble, agricultural crops destroyed, fishing equipment lost, and floating cottages wrecked. The once-peaceful lives of Pamplona’s residents were shattered, leaving them desperate for help and hope.

As we approach Lent, a time of reflection, sacrifice, and service, you are called to be the hands and feet of Christ for those most in need.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” – Matthew 25:40

Inspired by this Gospel message and the teachings of St. Josemaria Escriva, who reminds us that “the Christian vocation consists in making heroic deeds out of the everyday,” we invite you to join our mission to bring hope, relief, and God’s love to the people of Pamplona.

What We Will Do

During this mission trip, we will engage in a range of impactful activities designed to bring hope, healing, and empowerment to the community in Pamplona.

  1. Distribute Essential Aid: Provide clothing and hygiene supplies, including toiletries, toothbrushes, and soap, to meet immediate needs.

  2. Restart Education: Distribute school stationery such as school bags, books, and other resources to equip children for learning and growth.

  3. Empower Women: Teach girls and women about menstrual health and distribute reusable sanitary pads. We will also assess the feasibility of establishing a cottage factory for sanitary pad production, fostering self-sustainability and creating income opportunities.

  4. Enhance Child Development: Explore setting up a toy library and building a playground to provide children with opportunities for play, a critical aspect of their growth, development and dealing with trauma.

  5. Clean Water: Equip community with water filtration system.

  6. Build Community: Help repair homes and community facilities damaged by the typhoon.

  7. Celebrate Lives: Host a monthly birthday celebration, bringing happiness and recognition to individuals often overlooked.

Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Piat

Our mission will culminate in a pilgrimage to the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Piat, a renowned shrine dedicated to the Blessed Mother. Known as the “Mother of Cagayan,”

Our Lady of Piat has interceded for countless miracles and blessings.

During the pilgrimage, we will:

  • Offer thanksgiving prayers for the success of our mission.

  • Present sealed petitions to Our Blessed Mother, seeking her intercession for healing, reconciliation, financial difficulties, and other needs.

  • Pray for the people of Pamplona and our loved ones back home.

Did you know?

The image of Our Lady of Piat, a centuries-old treasure brought by Dominican missionaries, has been a source of hope and faith for Filipinos. This is your chance to experience the profound serenity and grace of this sacred place.

Submit Your Petitions:

How You Can Help

  • Volunteer: Be a part of the mission and experience the joy of serving Christ by bringing hope to this community.

  • Donate: Support by donating preloved or new items like sanitary pads, musical instruments, stationery for school, school bags, toiletries, diapers, plastic plates, cups, spoon, forks, paracetamol, vitamins, first-aid kits, blankets, etc. Please do not buy these items as they can be purchased much cheaper in Philippines and would not add to our baggage allowance. Instead, you can donate to Charis and indicate that your donation is for this mission so that we can purchase it on your behalf. We will also need to purchase monoblock chairs when on site for the community.

  • Sponsor a Volunteer: If you cannot join, consider sponsoring someone willing to serve but unable to afford the expenses.

  • Pray for Us: Offer your spiritual support and pray for the refugees and the missioners on this trip.

Commitment

Volunteers should be ready to embrace this mission with an open heart, humility, and a willingness to serve. Your presence and efforts will bring hope and dignity to refugees who have endured unimaginable hardships.

Be Part of Something Greater

Your presence on this mission can transform lives—not just those of the people we help but your own.

Just as Jesus gave His life for us, we are invited to give of ourselves to those who are suffering.

Together, let us embody Christ’s love, bringing light to those in darkness.
