💬 ABOUT THE MISSION

In the stillness of the mountains in northern Thailand, a child cries out in pain. There are no hospitals. No paved roads. No one to come. The stars look down on the tiny huts nestled on the ridges, as villagers wait in the cold night—hoping someone, somewhere, will come.

We will be that someone.

In Northern Thailand’s remote mountain villages, poverty is deepened by isolation. There are no hospitals, no roads, no light—only long, cold nights and aching silence.

This September, we invite you to join us on a mission of compassion—a journey not to where it is comfortable, but to where it is needed. We will travel to the forgotten villages of Fang District in the Province of Chiang Mai, where ethnic minorities like the Karen, Hmong, and Lahu peoples have waited generations for the help that never came.

🌺 A MISSION OF FAITH, NOT JUST A TRIP

This is not a sightseeing trip. It is not about photos or “experience.” This is a call—not just to go, but to love radically, to be present where few are willing to go, to kneel beside the sick, and serve the hungry, and the poor, and to say, "You are not forgotten."

It is a mission of faith, of courage, of love.

It is a mission of presence, rooted in the Catholic call to love, in the belief that every life matters, and that God often comes disguised as the poor

To serve these communities is to encounter Christ Himself.

💔 SEPTEMBER: MARY, MOTHER OF SORROWS, LEADS THE WAY 💧

This mission takes place in September, the month the Church dedicates to Our Lady of Sorrows—Mary, our Blessed Mother, who stood silently at the foot of the Cross, sharing in the pain of her Son. Just as she bore the weight of the world’s suffering with quiet strength, we are invited to carry the burdens of others, and to offer our presence, compassion, and love. She teaches us that love means staying close to suffering, not turning away.

We go to these mountains as Mary went to Calvary: not to change the world in one sweep, but to hold a hand, wipe a tear, and carry someone's sorrow with faith.

“The dignity of human work... comes from its being a participation in the work of God. We are co-redeemers with Christ, serving our brothers and sisters.”
— St. Josemaría Escrivá

🌾What We Will Do 🎯

During this mission trip, we will engage in a range of impactful activities designed to bring hope, healing, and empowerment to the community in Fang.

  1. Distribute Essential Aid: Provide winter wear, blankets, mattresses and hygiene supplies, including toiletries, toothbrushes, and soap.

  2. English Education: Launch game-based English learning tools for youth and train local facilitators.

  3. Empower Women: Teach girls and women about menstrual health and distribute reusable sanitary pads. We will also assess the feasibility of establishing a cottage factory for sanitary pad production, fostering self-sustainability and creating income opportunities.

  4. Regenerative Agriculture: Introduce sustainable agriculture and food preservation techniques to help families sustain themselves, including a tilapia pond.

  5. Clean Water and Solar Power: Equip community with water filtration system and solar-powered lighting.

  6. First-Aid: Provide basic medical supplies and training to set up satellite health posts.

✝️ BRINGING THE JUBILEE TO THE ELDERLY, THE SICK, AND THE FORGOTTEN

In his Message for the Fifth World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, Pope Leo XIV reminds us, “Blessed are those who have not lost hope.”

The Holy Father’s message is more than words—it’s a call to action. For the full message, click

In 2025, during the Jubilee of Hope, the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life is issuing a profound challenge to all Catholics: Don’t let geography, mobility, or frailty rob anyone of the grace of a Jubilee.

So, this year, the celebration doesn’t just happen in Rome. It will happen in nursing homes and hospices as well. The Eucharist will be celebrated wherever our elders and sick dwell. They, too, are pilgrims—not of feet, but of faith.

Bishop Dario Gervasi, Adjunct Secretary of the Dicastery, affirms this: “The elderly are never alone, but at the centre of the Church’s life… Their experience of life and faith is a precious heritage.”

We are bringing the Pope’s message—and the grace of the Jubilee—directly to the elderly and the sick in the most forgotten communities in our region.

Through local Eucharistic Celebration, a visit from our pastoral team, and distribution of the Pope’s letter and holy objects, we will bring the spiritual joy and comfort of the Jubilee direct to them. Let’s bring the Jubilee of Hope to those who cannot make a pilgrimage and make them feel loved.

🙏 PILGRIMAGE TO THE SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL, CHIANG MAI 🌸

Our mission will culminate in a pilgrimage to the

Sacred Heart Cathedral in Chiang Mai, one of the most beautiful and spiritually rich churches in North Thailand. Built in the mid-20th century through the collaboration of Pastor G. Merabell and a local monk, the Cathedral symbolizes Christian unity and hope.

Its European-inspired architecture, with a dome crowned by a cross, stained-glass windows, and intricate carvings—especially the main wooden door—reflect a deep reverence for the sacred.

During the pilgrimage, we will:

  • Offer thanksgiving prayers for the success of our mission.

  • Present sealed petitions to Our Blessed Mother, seeking her intercession for healing, reconciliation, financial difficulties, and other needs.

  • Pray for the people of Fang and our loved ones back home.

Submit Your Petitions:

If you or someone you know would like us to bring a prayer intention, please write it down, seal it in an envelope, and give it to us before 3 September 2025. Your petitions will be prayerfully offered and then privately burned as a final act of surrender to God.

Also, if you follow Gebirah's spiritual preparation and combined with our mission and pilgrimage, you will be able to obtain a plenary indulgence for yourself and/or your loved ones who have passed on during this special year of the Jubilee for each day during our mission.

A plenary indulgence is a grace granted by the Catholic Church through the merits of Jesus Christ to remove temporal punishment due to sin.

🧺How You Can Help

  • Volunteer: Be a part of the mission and experience the joy of serving Christ by bringing hope to this community.

  • Donate: Support by donating preloved or surplus items like clothing, especially winter ones, beddings, medical supplies (paracetamol, antibiotics, creams, bandages, thermometers, etc.) Water development equipment. Solar panels for home lighting. Please do not buy these items as they can be purchased much cheaper in Chiang Mai and would not add to our baggage allowance.

  • Sponsor a Volunteer: If you cannot join, consider sponsoring someone willing to serve but unable to afford the expenses.

  • Pray for Us: Offer your spiritual support and pray for the refugees and the missioners on this trip.

✨Commitment

Volunteers should be ready to embrace this mission with an open heart, humility, and a willingness to serve. Your presence and efforts will bring hope and dignity to this community who have endured unimaginable hardships.

👣Be Part of Something Greater

Your presence on this mission can transform lives—not just those of the people we help but your own.

Just as Jesus gave His life for us, we are invited to give of ourselves to those who are suffering.

Together, let us embody Christ’s love, bringing light to those in darkness.

“Don’t let your life be sterile. Be useful. Blaze a trail. Shine forth with the light of your faith and of your love.”
— St. Josemaría Escrivá

✍️Join us this September—be the answer to someone’s prayer.

Let’s carry the sorrows of this community to Our Lady’s feet…

And let’s bring joy where hope has been forgotten.
